Description
Woolman, John. A JOURNAL OF THE LIFE, GOSPEL LABOURS, AND CHRISTIAN EXPERIENCES… OF… JOHN WOOLMAN, LATE OF MOUNT-HOLLY, IN THE PROVINCE OF NEW JERSEY, NORTH-AMERICA. Dublin: M. Jackson, 1794. 8vo. xv, [1], 464 pp. Period marbled calf, wanting spine label. ************** John Woolman (1720–1772) was an early American abolitionist who urged fellow Quakers to support abolition, and the present work contains his "Considerations on the Keeping of Negroes." "The early English editions were somewhat abridged but the Dublin editions were reprinted in full from the Philadelphia edition" (Sabin, 105202.) The present copy is from the Moate (Ireland) Monthly Meeting Library, with several letters and notes tipped in or laid in at front regarding the book's history. It was apparently given to the library by Joseph Fuller Radley, who was a missionary to Madagascar. ESTC T80773 – From the collection of Scott Murphy.
