Description
This almost life-size 19th C oil on canvas, 3/4 life-size portrait of a woman in black with her hands crossed, is in a period gilt wood frame measuring approx 64 1/2" H x 55" W OD. Written on the back in faint chalk is an address in Aberdeen, Scotland that has been associated with the sister of artist William Dyce from Scotland (Aberdeen, Scotland, 1806 - 1864). The consignor emailed pictures to the National Museum in Scotland who felt this painting was most likely a Dyce and that the subject may have been his sister; however, there is no documentation. Condition: There is a repair approx 3.5" to the left of her face at eye level. Painting appears to have slipped approx 1/2" in frame based on exposed painting at top.
