Description
This is an earlier 90's Billy Henson signed and dated decorated jug / pitcher, with the grapes/leaves design. Measures 7"x6"x11 1/4". Weight 5 pds. Billy Henson was a third generation folk potter from Lyman, SC. In the 10 years he was active in making pottery, he touched many people’s lives in a positive way. He loved the traditional methods of making pottery and rebuilt and used his grandfather’s kiln and kick wheel. He was quoted as saying, “My great-granddaddy was one of the first in this area to do pottery; now I do it the same way.” When he blasted off his big wood fired kiln, he’d get the whole community involved as they would help stoke the fire with the wood he had cut. He never rushed the process and usually only fired twice a year. Billy received recognition and an accommodation from the legislature of the state of South Carolina for his efforts in reviving the rich traditions of SC pottery. Billy's work was also featured in the permanent collection of the mint museum of art in Charlotte, NC. NO IN HOUSE SHIPPING. PROVENANCE: A Private Charleston SC Estate.
