A Teke fetish figure. Teke people, (Brazzaville) DRC. Congo, Central Africa. The figure of classical form, the head with typical back-swept coif, the body wrapped entirely in a fetish bundle still intact and tied around the piece. There is an encrusted area on the front suggesting sacrificial organic material. The legs barely emerging at the bottom, On a custom base. The figure measures 9 inches. Provenance: Old American collection.
