Description
Location of Manufacture: Fujian Kilns, China
Period of Manufacture: Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
Diameter: 11 1/2"
Height: 2 1/4"
Weight: 2 pounds, 14.6 ounces
For your consideration is a large Chinese blue and white 'minyao' porcelain shallow bowl. Minyao, which translates to 'people's ware', is also affectionately called "Kitchen Qing" as it was a utilitarian ware primarily used for serving food. This particularly large example has a beautiful blue underglaze design that is rather intricate for these types of wares. The slightly bluish glaze displays consistent craquelure over the entire porcelain body except for around the unglazed interior center of the bowl. This reddish unglazed ring is from where other bowls were stacked on top of this bowl in the kiln.
Provenance: From the private collection of a retired Army Major General in San Antonio, Texas.
