Description
This pattern is believed to have been made by Boyle and Gamble in Richmond despite there being no known marked examples. They usually show up in crude steel scabbards, though I have personally seen three in original leather scabbards. The leather on this saber is the original sheath that was present when the sword first surfaced. The early brass scabbard mounts are slipped on for aesthetic purposes of display and are not a product of the Confederacy. The leather is! (One example I viewed years ago sported a leather covered steel sheath with the rings sewn to the leather.) The condition is very good. Note the absence of a fuller in the blade. Hence the nickname Flat-Side. Has the original grip wrap including single strand iron wire. A very good example.
