Title: Album of photographs of transportation, industrial and business operations in greater Los Angeles, with detailed typed captions
Place Published: Los Angeles
Publisher:
Date Published: c.1920
Description:
29 original gelatin silver photographs mounted on rectos only of stiff tan album leaves, with descriptions and photograph numbers typed directly on the leaves (except for the final leaf, containing 3 photos, which has no typed description). 8 of the 29 views are 2 or more images joined together for panoramic effect. Preceding the original photographs are two leaves on which are mounted halftones from newspapers of Los Angeles scenes. Photographs are various sizes; album measures 28.5x42 cm (11¼x16½"), cloth covers, post-bound.
Exceptional album of photographs of a rarely-seen side of Los Angles, far from the glitz and glitter of Hollywood and Rodeo Drive, with railroad tracks and interchanges; oil storage facilities; truck manufacturers; power lines; shipping depots; water towers; and other vital underpinnings of the economic infrastructure. The descriptions go into considerable detail of the subjects, including the land valuation, as the "owner of the land occupied by the Morelend Motor Truck Company places a value of $1.50 per square foot on it."
