Africa, Early 20th Century
Finely carved figural pulley of a face with almond shaped eyes, long nose, and small lips wearing a geometric cap or hairstyle. African men typically do the weaving and these heddle pulleys are created so they have something beautiful to look at while they work at their looms.
Approx. 12 1/8" t x 4 1/2" w x 3 1/2" d.
From the deaccessioned collection of a Cultural Museum in Alabama.

Missing cylinder, light surface wear to nose and lips, light wear around edges, light wear associated with age and use, otherwise good condition.
