Description
The silvered dial with old lacquer is engraved the cardinal points in block letters, fleur-de-lis at North, blued steel hand, the maker's name Thos Whitney, maker, Philadelphia No 514. Warranted with screw mount vanes on the table with single spirit level and fitted case, along with a later Jacob's staff.
Measures 69.5 x 14 x 6.5 inches.
Provenance: The estate of a collector active in Historical Re-enactment, Surveying the Frontier, Scientific Instruments. Lewis and Clark.
