Item Details
Description
Early 19th Century Mahogany Telescope Tripod Stand. The stand will adjust to a height of possibly 70" high. When the telescope is lower it is approximately 43" high. This telescope has a two section turned telescoping pedestal with three scroll legs. It has a two board troth at top with leather straps to hold telescope. Included with the stand, is a brass telescope of unknown origin, approximately 36" long. The telescope is not original to the stand. We believe it is much newer. Property of a prominent Memphis, Tennessee family.
Condition
Condition- Stand is in the original varnish. It has a crack in the top of the pedestal that extends down approx. 6 1/2". Originally, this stand had a threaded wood screw that was inserted through the ball at the top and when tightened, it would hold the telescoping shaft in different positions. The hole remains but the screw is missing. The leather straps are not original. See photos.
