CARLOS MERIDA (Guatemalan/Mexico 1891-1984) A PRINT, "Lady of the Emerald," ARTIST PROOF, 1979, serigraph in colors on paper, signed L/R in pencil, "Merida," and signed and dated in plate "Merida 1979," proof marked in pencil in margin L/L, "P/A VI," 47" x 31 1/4", framed, 32" x 48". Note: Chalchihuitlicue, wife of Tlaloc, the Aztec god of rain and moisture. She is worshiped by water bearers, the patroness of fertility and childbirth. Provenance: Art collection of the late Charles and Geri L. Hooks, owners of Houston’s oldest and most prestigious art gallery, Hooks-Epstein Galleries.
