Description
Iconic Apollo XI Color Film Negative of Aldrin's Footprint on the Moon
Measuring 2.25" x 2.75", taken during NASA's Apollo XI mission, dated circa July 20, 1969. A transparent, plastic frame of 70-mm Hasselblad color film negative, showing a footprint of Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin's bootprint upon the moon. Taken as part of a test of the properties of the lunar regolith (the loose, superficial deposits covering the moon's solid rock surface). At the edge of the negative has been written in ink, "AS11-40-5877", dictating that the photograph was from Mission 11, Magazine 40S.
The Apollo 11 mission crew carried four 70mm cameras with them and captured a total of 1407 images on nine magazines of film (550 in color and 857 in black and white). During their two and a half hours of extravehicular activities, the astronauts gathered samples of surface materials and extensively photographed the lunar surface. Very fine condition, with only minor toning to the edges of the film.
A remarkable piece of space memorabilia from the Apollo XI mission!
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
