Description
Hair, Alfred (1941-1970) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on linen Upson - signed lower right. Rendered in palette and brush. Extensive research of Alfred Hair archivesreveal fewer than a handful of Hair paintings ever having come to public market with a person in the image. Two in a thousand are "washer woman" scenes. The present example is the ONLY image that is not a washer womanand hence museum worthy and historically significant for this artist. Absent the potential conjuring of another such painting - this work stands singular in class as the iconic "Hair Fisherman" scene. Boardmeasures 24x36 framed to overall size of 27x40. African American Highwaymen Folk Art, evolved from the Backus Indian River School Art Colony. Condition: Very Fine
