Large pair of Japanese Meiji Period porcelain floor vases with tapered body rising to a knopped, cylindrical neck with an undulating, everted mouth, decorated in underglaze blue with rondels and rectangles of landscapes above a field of waves, the neck with floral roundels on a karakusa ground. 61" tall, 18" diam.From the estate of Elisha Graves Otis family, whose fortunes were made by the elevator. Similar to vases appearing in the William Merritt Chase portrait of his two daughters.
