Description
1878 RARE Childrens Literature Uncle Remus Little Brown House 2 Book Lot
Two works of vintage childrens literature, written from two very different perspectives. The Little Brown House, like many stories by Mrs. D. P. Sanford, describes the experience of a family moving into a new home and their everyday amusements in a very idyllic style. Lessons in responsibility and morality are presented gently, and the peaceful style made the story very accessible to young readers. Conversely, Uncle Remus by Joel C. Harris perpetuated many of the stereotypes of the African American people, including dialect and slavery themes, by presenting them in an idealized way. Characters introduced in Uncle Remuss tales, Brer Rabbit and crew, are the basis and inspiration for Disneys black folklore and controversial tale “Song of the South”.
