Description
1911 1ed Tale of Timmy Tiptoes Beatrix Potter Children’s Literature
"My little old man and I fell out, How shall we bring this matter about? Bring it about as well as you can, And get you gone, you little old man!”
– Beatrix Potter, Timmy Tiptoes
‘The Tale of Timmy Tiptoes’ is a children’s book written and illustrated by Beatrix Potter. The book follows the story of a squirrel who is thought to be a nut-thief by his fellow squirrels and chipmunks. Potter sought to personify North America indigenous animals, including woodpeckers, but sales indicated that her depiction of the critters was less than adequate. The relationship between squirrels and chipmunks was also abrasive to parent readers.
This first print book of Beatrix Potter’s is unique in that it is the only illustrated work of hers to feature American animals, particularly the grey squirrel and woodpecker.
