Description
These are an excellent set of 34 views on 17 sheets of the Southwest and mostly of the border area between the US and Mexico post the Gadsden purchase. These views cover Arizona and New Mexico. Emory erected "monuments" or pyramid shaped stone structures to mark the border. The sketches presented here were made to record the views around the markers, should the markers be disassembled by others - Native Americans were feared to do so. From the Report on the United States and Mexican Boundary Survey… by Emory.
