Description
This is an excellent and highly detailed map of China and Korea showing topography, rivers, lakes, towns and the Great Wall as well. The Qing Emperor Kangxi commissioned Jesuit surveyors to map China from 1708 to 1716. The resulting maps were published in China. About this time Chinese emissionaries obtained surveys of Korea. JP D'Anville gained access to maps of both surveys and published the resulting maps in Paris, and subsequently similar maps like this were published in England. The table on the bottom provides the meaning of relevant Chinese words. Embellished with pictorial title cartouche and small compass rose.
