Description
Worked in blue, green, yellow, cream and black silk threads on linen, with rows of the alphabet in block and script upper and lowercase letters, above the verse "Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand, As the first efforts of my feeble hands, And as my fingers o'er the canvas move, Encase my tender heart to seek thy love," over a panel enclosing "Wrought by/ Amelia Jane Bowhay/ In the 19th year of her/ age," flanked by a basket of flowers and a flowering plant, all surrounded by a meandering vine border of tulips and stars (17.5 in. x 16.5 in, sight); housed in a period giltwood frame. Frame: H: 19.5 in., W: 18.5 in., D: 0.75 in.
