Description
A beautiful and touching carte-de-visite (CDV) photo of what appears to be an African American woman standing alongside a white woman. Taken in Lancaster, Pennsylvania c. 1864-1866, this impressive photo helps give a window into race relations in a northern city that was home to Thaddeus Stevens, the architect of the 13th Amendment. Content of this type is exceedingly unique, as it depicts the two standing as equals.
Condition of the CDV is fine, with some light wear and soiling. Contrast is slightly light.
[Civil War] [Union, Confederate] [Antique Photography, Daguerreotype, Ambrotype, Tintype, Albumen, CDV, Cabinet Card] [Slavery, Black History, African-American History, Abolition, Abolitionist, Emancipation, Civil War, Abraham Lincoln]
