Two exquisite, hand colored, 18th century engravings on laid paper by English naturalist George Edwards (1694-1773).
The included engravings are Bustard Cock (73) and The Triangular Spotted Pidgeon (75). These plates originate from Edwards' four-volume masterwork in ornithology "A Natural History of Uncommon Birds" (published 1743-1751). Retained with each plate in this lot are leaf descriptions from the book of the depicted birds.
Signed and dated in plate. Coloring remains vivid. Each sheet measures ~11 x 9 in.
