Description
Various Makers, Nineteenth Century. Comprising a set of 9 George III 'Tipped Fiddle' pattern forks, Thomas Wilkes Barker, London, 1816, each engraved on the reverse with a badge and motto "NEC PARVIS SISTO" (I stand not on trifles) and enclosing an armored arm, marked handle reverse; two Scottish Victorian forks, Edinburgh, 1851, Samuel Weir (probably), engraved with the initial "C" and marked on the handle reverse; a set of 6 George V pistol handled knives with steel blades, Martin, Hall & Co. (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall), Sheffield, 1911; and a set of 10 dinner knives with steel blades, Edward Barnard & Sons, Ltd., London, 1912, all marked on the ferules; and Victorian mug, Colen Hewer, Cheshire, 1876, engraved initials ""ET," marked exterior side beneath rim. Together with a set of 9 American silver nut dishes, Gorham Mfg. Co, each with engraved initials "M.H.W.," pattern "58;" and a candle snuffer, Lenore Doskow, New York 30.70 troy oz. weighable. (38)Leonore B. Doskow (American 1910-2008), Finney Farm, Croton-on-Hudson, New York, was a silversmith and amateur painter. She was born in Philadelphia, graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1932 and opened a studio to develop her silversmithing business. After marrying David M. Doskow in 1934, she moved her studio to New York City and later to Montrose, New York, where she manufactured monogrammed and other silver articles of her own design and, together with her husband, built a nationwide business under the name Leonore Doskow, Inc.
