Description
George II Sterling Silver Coffee Pot
Phillips Garden, London, 1751
A model by Paul de Lamerie, of baluster-form chased with rocaille and floral swags, the handle with lion mask join, the hinged cover with an artichoke finial. Height 11 inches (28 cm), approximately 32 ounces, all in.

A coffee pot with short spout cast with a coffee plant and lion's mask upper handle join, by Phillips Garden dated 1752, and formerly in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, sold Sotheby's, New York, 20 October 2020, lot 50. Another example by Garden dated 1756 was offered Sotheby's New York, 19 April 2021, lot 176. Paul de Lamerie also produced coffee pots with short shouts cast with coffee plants. It is believed that Phillips Garden purchased the tools and models for the workshop of Paul de Lamerie, and this pot illustrates the connection between these two Rococo silversmiths.
