Item Details
Description
Native American, Southwestern United States, Apache people, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A fine knife fashioned out of a sword blade with a shallow fuller groove and a single cutting edge along a thick spine. The tang is covered with two horn panels that are riveted on top, with a curved hook protruding from the butt formed from the tang tip. Native Americans preferred shorter blades, rather than full length swords, so modifying European weapons and trimming the blade down to convert to a dagger or other custom tool was not unusual. The grip has remains of a pink-red pigment and a fine patina across the blade of this antique dagger! Size: 13.75" L x 1.125" W (34.9 cm x 2.9 cm); (blade): 9.75" L x 1.125" W (24.8 cm x 2.9 cm)
