Item Details
Description
Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran and Turkey, Canaan and Luristan, ca. 1000 to 800 BCE. A wonderful collection of 6 ancient Near Eastern bronze and copper weapons. Two are Luristan spear heads with triangular blades and a prominent midrib. The third midsized blade is Canaanite, a flat cast, perhaps a dagger, with rivets on the tang for attachment. The most petite items are 2 Luristan arrowheads; one is petaloid, and the other is a broadhead type with pronounced fins. The largest blade is a broadsword, cast by Luristan artisans, with an elongated petaloid body, a thick midrib coursing down the center of each side, sharpened edges tracing down to a rounded tip, and a short, stocky tang on the back. All are enveloped in attractive green and blue patina. The presentation is excellent; these are professionally mounted and displayed in a wooden frame with a velvet backing and engraved brass label plate. Size of largest spear: 16" L x 2.5" W (40.6 cm x 6.4 cm); frame: 36.25" L x 12.25" W (92.1 cm x 31.1 cm)

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
