Circa late 19th century. Emile Bruchon (French, 1806-1895) was a quintessential Belle Epoque decorative artist known for his lamps, clocks, and bronze statuettes. Throughout his works, he often chose to depict historical or mythological figures, such as the title character of Falubert's 1862 novel Salammbo. Bruchon's work is characterized by finely detailed decorative motifs embedded in otherwise utilitarian objects.
