For your consideration is this pair of salesman saddles. These two "matching" saddles show the different options that can be ordered on this saddle. Having these two samples of options together is very rare. One saddle shows a high back seat and A-fork swells. The other saddle has a low back seat and a slick fork buckaroo style swell. The original saddlery shop salesman sample most likely dates to the early 1900's and is a rare find. The first saddle is a slick fork buckaroo style that is specifically built to be a working saddle; it was designed for handling livestock and for maximum comfort during a long day in the saddle with ease of frequent mounting and dismounting. High back saddles with A-fork swells provide an extremely stabilizing aspect to working saddles. These sample saddles would have been used to show off the countless options a saddle maker can contribute to the right custom saddle, showing the type of harness, the stirrups, and latigo keepers are attached to; it also shows types of tooling consistent with saddles of the time period. The condition of these salesman samples is good, showing slight aging to the leather, but in good overall condition. The measurements of these salesman samples are 2 3/4" x 2" x 4 1/4".
