Signed oil painting on canvas by Ted Wetherbee, born 1933 in Conneticut. Landscape painting of a walking path in a city, in between a street with cars and apartments with beautiful trees.Theodore (Ted) Wetherbee was born in 1933 in Middletown, Connecticut to parents interested in the arts. They moved to Buffalo, New York in 1939. Ted was raised in Western New York and influenced by the landscape and people of the region. He accompanied his mother who attended art classes given by Isaac Soyer during the 1940's. He also met Charles Burchfield at that time. Upon graduation from high school, he moved to New York City and attended the Brooklyn Museum Art School where he came in contact with a number of artists including Ben Shahn, Reuben Tam, Isaac, Moses and Raphael Soyer, as well as fellow students Walter Williams and William Gothard. He was drafted for the Korean War, served two years in the infantry and upon discharge attended the American Art School in NYC, studying with Raphael Soyer, Robert Phillip, and Joseph Hirsch. After working as a commercial artist, he returned to Buffalo in 1959. In 1960, he began working for the Wabash Railroad. And while he did sketch and draw, painting, for the most part was on hold. Upon retirement in 1993, he began to paint seriously again and after a few years, exhibit. His landscapes reflect Western New York and in particular, Wyoming County where he he lives.
