Antique dark spinach Chinese jade inkwell circa 1900 with carved handles and silver lid with traces of gilding (missing tiny finial). Silver signed YAMANAKA Sterling. Has glass insert. Very good condition, some tarnish to inside cover. 4.5 in wide and 2.75 in high. NOTE: The founder of Yamanaka & Co., Sadajiro Adachi Yamanaka was born in 1866 in Sakai and started working as an apprentice to his father who was an antique dealer. In 1912, Yamanaka & Co. became the exclusive agent of Prince Kung (Yixin), among the last of the Ching imperial family. In Beijing, Sadajiro bought warehouse-sized collections of bronze, jade, and porcelain and sold them in New York, London, and Japan.)
