Description
German Expressionist School, "Portrait of a Man," 1927, oil on canvas, signed "Scholtz" and dated indistinctly lower left, possibly George Scholz with artist auction prices listed en verso, presented in a gilt frame, H.- 14 3/4 in., W.- 11 3/4 in., Framed H.- 20 1/2 in., W.- 17 1/4 in.
Condition
This is a beautiful example of German Expressionism. There looks to be two small areas of paint loss on chin of person. Under black light, there are some signs of a previous repair, particularly in the lower proper right quadrant. The face looks like it underwent some repair under black light (view photo for reference). Craquelure is visible throughout the piece, which is consistent with age. This is an exquisite example.
