Description
Two (2) Neolithic Asian items, including one (1) Ban Chiang Thai red-on-buff earthenware chalice with geometric and swirling decorations, and one (1) sandstone whistle in the form of a monkey. Ranging in size from 2 3/8" H x 1 3/8" W x 1 7/8" D to 7 7/8" H x 5 1/8" dia. Possibly first millennium BCE. Note: A 1994 Sotheby's estimate listed this chalice as Ban Chiang pottery. Provenance: Collection of Thomas M. Alexander, Greeneville, TN, former U.S. Army Captain Airborne/Special Forces during the Late 1960s/Early 1970s in Vietnam. He became a Central Intelligence Agency Field Officer in Southeast Asia, beginning in the Early 1970s until his retirement in 1994.
