Description
American school, 19th century. Pair of portrait of husband and wife, oils on canvas. Apparently unsigned, period giltwood frames. Note: Reported to have hung in Haseley Court in England and were sold when Nancy Lancaster sold the estate. Provenance: The Private Collection of Mr. & Mrs. Douglas Peters, Stone Mountain, Georgia. Approx. 33.5" x 28.5" (frame), 30.5 x 20.125" (canvas)
Condition
Lined, craquelure. Examined under blacklight. Surface is covered in more than one masking varnish campaign with each layer partially cleaned off. The amount of inpainting under these layers is difficult to determine.
