Description
Pair of "Orange Fitzhugh" plates from the Thomson service, early 19th century, having in the center of each the cypher EAT in iron-red, contained within the characteristic Fitzhugh pattern. Philadelphia merchant Edward Thomson (1771-1853) married Ann Renshaw in 1796. He had a thriving business, sending many ships to China, until the 1825-26 bust in tea. See J.G.
