Description
Song Dynasty White Glazed Ding Ware Conical Bowl W/Engraved Lotus Motif (From a Vietnamese Royal Family) - This Song Dynasty bowl is of typical conical form and is decorated with a thick creamy white glaze. The bowl is engraved with an ornate lotus flower motif and an unglazed rim. This bowl was produced at the Ding kiln, one of the five most famous kilns of the period. The porcelain fired in Ding kiln was of top-grade, and had a deep effect on other porcelain fired in the Song Dynasty. The range and output of the Ding wares was large, producing ceramics of high quality for the wealthy merchant class and the scholar-literati class, as well as tributary ceramics of the highest quality for the imperial court. This piece is truly stunning, and belongs in a museum or with an astute collector. This piece comes from the estate of a Vietnamese Royal Family (the family now lives in the United States, and wishes to remain private as they still have relatives living in Vietnam). Measurements: 3"H x 8" diameter.
