Description
Large drawing in black, red and white conte, showing a farm with chickens, pigs, barn, and a large old farmhouse with figures on the porch and steps. Signed lower right and dated 1968. Verso with article about the artist and notation from owner that the drawing was purchased from Leslie Cope at his home in Roseville, Ohio, in 1968. Born in Stoke-on-Trent, England, Cope moved to America in 1931 and made his home in Roseville, Ohio. His paintings reflect his memories of rural England and his love of Southeastern Ohio, as well as scenes from annual painting trips to Gloucester Massachusetts and travels in the Western US. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, the Library of Congress, and Capitol University. He has had one man shows at the Smithsonian Institution and the Library of Congress. Frame, approx. 30 1/2" x 23". Sight, approx. 19" x 14 3/4".
