Card Players Gambling Oil Painting on Board Folk Artwork
1918-Signed & Dated, Folk Art Oil Painting on Board of a Quartet of Card Players Gambling, by artist Hortense Fea Sicard (1887-1953), Newark, Ohio, Very Fine.
Four shrewd looking Card Players are shown seated around a cracker barrel in a general store, the store's proprietor looking over the shoulder of the man seated furthest left. This original artwork measures 10.5" x 8.75" and is Signed and Dated, "H. Fea Sicard - '18", seen at lower left. This pleasing Folk-Art style Painting has definite appeal. There is some minor outer corner wear and painted edge chipping from prior framing which would be hidden when reframed. The female artist, "H. Fea Sicard" is Hortense Fea Sicard of Newark, Ohio who lived from 1887 to 1953. Her name comes up right away in an Internet search, but no other paintings are shown bearing her signature. Overall, an attractive Americana painting ready for framing and display.
