Etching. Street scene in France. Signed and numbered "Ger-Cheruy 14/40" to lower right. Germaine Rouget Cheruy was the youngest person to be elected to the French Salon. She served as head of costume design for the Theatre du Vieux-Colombier under Jacques Copeau. In 1924, Cheruy moved to America with her husband, Rene Cheruy, who had taken a position as head of the French Department at Loomis School in Conneticut. Rene was a soldier, educator and also an artist. He served as secretary to French sculptor, Auguste Rodin. In 1940s, the Cheruy's purchased a home in Arizona where they hosted salons, receptions and other artists and writers.17-1/4" high x 13-5/8" wide overall with frame.
