Description
1861 British Moths Science Darwin Evolution 60 Illustrated Color Plates Insects
Francis O. Morriss Natural History of British Moths is one of the best and most thorough 19th-century accounts of lepidopterology. Not only does this work describe hundreds of various species of moths, it also features over 100s of color illustrated figures.
Morris, who also studied butterflies and birds, notably rejected the evolutionary theories of Charles Darwin and strongly disliked Thomas Huxleys scientific studies. In fact, Morris published anti-Darwin pamphlets detailing the flaws of natural selection; however, he did advocate for the possible resurrection or restoration of animals because, as he claimed, the Bible did not refute the idea of animal immortality.
