Description:
Ernest W. Bowditch, creator of the map, was born in Brookline and was a prominent Boston landscape architect, designing more than 2,500 projects. He was called upon in 1885 by Pierre Lorillard IV to assist in the development of the Tuxedo Lake area as a private sporting reserve, which became known as "Tuxedo Park". Lorillard initially built small cottages, renting or selling them to his friends and family. Noted architect Bruce Price designed the original clubhouse and some cottages for a number of prominent persons as vacation residences. The owners of several of the lots are named on the map.

The earliest known map of Tuxedo City, in Orange County, New York, along the Ramapo River. The town was developed as a private hunting-and-fishing reserve in 1885, and today is an exclusive gated village with population slightly more than 600 people. OCLC has no records of this map.
