37x1016 cm (14½x400") rolled paper handscroll, mounted on cloth at top and tail, housed in custom yellow silk box. Prospectus laid in.
A photographic reproduction of a triumph of 14th century landscape art and mapmaking, with 20 famous scholars' colophons. The original painting, now in the New York Met, shows the progress of the Yellow River from the Dragon's Gate in the west to its mouth far to the east. In this facsimile, names of mountains, cities, and historical landmarks are printed in silver gilt on the map itself. Text in Chinese.
Condition
Light soiling to silk box; prospectus creased and chipped; map itself fine.
