Description
According to Howard, this machine did not appear in Columbia catalogs. Instead of being sold, it was used as a premium or give away for retailers. Since it was free, it was of very basic construction. It had a painted black base with gold pin striping. Instead of Columbia using a feed screw so the machine did not skip, this model relied upon gravity in hopes that the stylus followed the record groves. To keep the reproducer from sliding off, the words “Keep level” were stamped in the gear cover which corresponded to a leveling screw below. The black paint appears to be original with redone pin stripes, the ornate winding key is original, and the motor winds and runs. Comes with an original 10” cone horn with good paint and stripe, especially designed for the premium machine. A seldom seen small Columbia model that can fit into anyone’s collection. Measures 11.5” x 6”.
