Description

A 19th century rosewood marine barometer with 'Improved Sympiesometer'
Atkin, Newcastle
The carved foliate cresting over a substantial trunk mounted with twin recording knobs over the 'Improved Sympiesometer' with mercury thermometer, recording disc and shortened tube with mercury and coloured oil, the sliding scale measuring from 27.5 to 31 inches operated via a rack and pinion to the side; the main barometer dial of ivory and marked for 'Yesterday' and 'Today' with verniers (mercury tube lacking). 98 cms (38.5ins) high.
