MAURICE PILLARD VERNEUIL (French, 1869-1942), "KalÈidoscope: Ornements Abstraits" (Kaleidoscope: Abstract Ornaments), portfolio, presenting a total of 87 designs for textiles, in the style of Art Deco. Portfolio (overall): 18 x 14.25 inches, image size (each sheet) :14.25 x 11.75 inches. Notes: This plate presents four designs for textiles with abstract motifs. The first contains a variety of abstract curved shapes colored with olive green and light purplish-gray, yellow semicircles,and white pearls outlined with blue, over a background with zig-zagging orange stripes that separate a red rectangle from a black rectangle, and gray and blue stripes. The second is made up of vertical rows of scales executed alternately with two shades of green over a cream background, separated by strips of vertical rectangles of the same two shades of green and small black triangles. The third design is made up of a strip of large fragmented circles colored with orange, green, aquamarine and silver, smaller aquamarine silvers, and triangles, squares and other geometric shapes colored with orange and shades of green over a blue ground. The fourth design consists of large circles and squares made up of geometric shapes colored with shades of pink and some with silver, and smaller circles made up of geometric shapes colored with shades of yellow over a background of geometric shapes colored with different shades of blue.
