Description
**Originally Listed At $600**
South America, Upper/Western Amazon Basin, Peru, Ucayali River, Shipibo/Conibo peoples, ca. early to mid-20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden canoe paddle with a lengthy shaft, a tubular handle, and a petaloid paddle with a protruding lower point. The tubular handle was incorporated to give the rower a better grip near the end, and the paddle tab was for freeing a boat stuck in thick silt deposits or mud lying beneath the water. Smooth caramel-hued patina envelops the entire paddle. A wonderful example! Size: 10.5" W x 46.5" H (26.7 cm x 118.1 cm)
Provenance: private Newport Beach, California, USA collection

Condition
Expected surface wear with slight loss to surface of paddle head, as well as nicks, chips, and abrasions, all commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, very nice with light patina.
