Description
**First Time At Auction**

Egypt, Ptolemaic Period, ca. 332 to 30 BCE. A mold-formed faience amulet of Imsety (also Amset, Amsety, Mesty, and Mesta), the human-headed funerary deity who is part of the four Sons of Horus. Covered in turquoise-hued glaze, Imsety faces to the right and stands in mummiform while grasping a length of linen wrappings meant to bind a mummified body. His countenance bears a single almond-shaped eye as well as rounded cheeks, puffy lips, and one cupped ear, all framed by a minimal wig. Biconical suspension holes are drilled through the top of the head and the bottom of the feet for attachment to mummy wrappings. Imsety was the protector of the liver, was oriented with the southern direction, and was himself protected by the goddess Isis. Size: 0.65" W x 2.625" H (1.7 cm x 6.7 cm)

Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896
