Norm Tait, Canadian (b. 1941) ceremonial mask. Cedar ceremonial carved wooden mask of an eagle w/movable beak and painted eyes, brows and beak. Signed "NT73"(carved on inside) . Norman Tait is a Canadian First Nations artist and totem pole carver from the NisgaĂąâŹâąa Nation of Northwestern British Columbia.. Title: Eagle Mask. Medium: Cedar wood. Size: 14 x 8.25 x 8.25 in. Artist: Norman Tait. Unframed. Eagle - tutelary spirit who was believed to have shown man how to catch salmon . Tait received instruction from Bill Holm & the group at 'KSAN', Also well known for his fine carvings of totem poles, bowels (ROM show -June 1974), This mask can actually be worn and the lower jaw would be manipulated from inside the dancers costume..Repaired Break on left' cheek' (facing)
