Description
(1899 - 1984) Japanese billionaire, president of the Matsuo Entertainment Company (MEC) and builder and owner of Nara Dreamland. Matsuo had negotiated directly with Walt Disney to bring a Disney park to Japan, but when talks failed, he built Nara Dreamland, a very close replica to Disneyland itself. The park thrived from its inception in 1961, but slowly failed following the opening of an 'authorized' Disney park in Tokyo in 1983. It closed in 2006. Rare A.L.S. on hotel letterhead, 1p. 8vo., Los Angeles, ca. 1958, thanking a young girl for her handmade gift and sending photographs of a kabuki play. One photograph, signed by an unknown individual, is present. Fine.
