James A. Ventress Society of Americans of Royal Descent 14K Yellow Gold Medal and Presidential Pardon From Andrew Johnson - This lot encompasses a pair of historical artifacts from the life of James A. Ventress, a prominent planter and one of the founders of the University of Mississippi. Ventress was born in 1805 and became one of Mississipi's richest and most prominent planters, as well as a state legislator and civic leader. This lot includes Ventress' 14k yellow gold medal from the National Americans of Royal Descent, along with a two-page Presidential pardon from President Andrew Johnson. The pardon has various handwritten information and a stamp with Andrew Johnson's signature as the President had a broken wrist at the time. The pardon is dated August 28th of 1865 and is signed by the Secretary of State and bears an embossed seal. This is one of the rarest and most unique set of historical memorabilia we have seen in some time. These items were acquired from the estate of a descent of the Ventress family.
