A RARE RUSSIAN CIVIL WAR 1ST KUBAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL. Comprising a finely crafted pierced silver crown of thorns with chasing on surface and with diagonally mounted sword, verso with stamped number at top 483 and at mid-left a stamp with the Cyrillic letter CH (?) and suspended from a vintage, likely the original St. George ribbon. Diameter of crown of thorns 35 mm, greatest measurement (sword) 50 mm.

A private American collection. Sold at Jackson's November 20, 2019 sale as lot #374 where acquired by consignor

The original award of the Civil War, established in August 1918 by order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the South of Russia, Lieutenant General A. I. Denikin. The medal went down in the history of the White movement as the most respected and revered reward. The badge was established in memory of the unprecedented First Kuban (Ice) campaign of the Volunteer Army for all participants in the campaign. The participants of the hostilities were given the medal on the St. George ribbon, for those who did not directly participate in the battles - on the Vladimir ribbon. The right to be awarded a medal was given to all participants in the campaign. Medal with the issuance number #1 was posthumously awarded L. G. Kornilov.
