Titled, "Black Mountain, State II", 1983 etching and aqautint in red and blue. Numbered 29/32 and pencil-signed Motherwell lower right. Thick black lines on a brilliant red field. American artist, Robert Motherwell, was one of the founders and principal exponents of Abstract Expressionism, who was among the first American artists to cultivate accidental elements in his work. Motherwell painted in series, groups of paintings of similar technique and colors, and was an acknowledged master of the medium of collage. He had a particular fascination and preference for working with paper. He felt that his involvement with printmaking was just as important and vital to his work as his collages or paintings on canvas.Overall size: 28 1/2 x 35 1/2 in. Sight size: 24 1/2 x 31 in.
